Richelieu Course
Country Club Title

Golfing at the Manoir Richelieu dates back to 1923, when guests could play on a nine-hole course designed by golf pro Harry Black. The original course was set on agricultural land several kilometres from the hotel.

Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club already enjoys an enviable reputation. The Shield, a much-coveted trophy, and the establishment of the exclusive Cardinal Club in 1951 enhanced the club’s reputation.

Today, the course is home to several tournaments, including the Jackie Desmarais Open and the Coupe Casino de Charlevoix on the 18-hole course of 6,105 yards. In 2000, Golf Course Ranking recognized the high quality of the course and the overall experience at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. The Canadian magazine ranked Le Manoir the Best Golf Course in Canada in the “Resort” category and awarded it the double-platinum medal, which is the magazine’s highest distinction in the category.

Golfing at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu dates back to 1923, when guests could golf on a nine-hole course designed by golf pro Harry Black. The golf course was set on agricultural land several kilometers from the hotel.

With the growing popularity of the game and the Charlevoix area as well, the Canada Steamship Lines, that was owning the resort, decided to invest in a new golf course, which would be more accessible and far more spectacular. Architect Herbert Strong was hired to design the new green gem that was opened in 1925 and inaugurated by William H. Taft.

Strong’s incomparable golf course was carefully laid out over the rolling hills by the Manoir, overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence. In 1929, a golf columnist wrote that the course offered “something of an aerial view, as though one had been invited to hit balls from one cloud to another.

St-Laurent Course
Country Club Title

The first fairway on the St-Laurent course is forgiving due to its width. This hole counts 482 yards, with a magnificent sight of La Malbaie in the background. Different tees are offered to you, each one presents views that are simply majestic. This par 5 is not to be played too aggressively, placing your drive on the left side might seem a little conservative, but you will soon notice that placement is the key on this short par 5.

Judicious choice on the second shot is vital. This hole counts not less than 14 bunkers placed strategically. Do not forget the attraction that the St-Lawrence River puts on the putting surface, with that in mind you can experience all that is possible for a golfer on this great course.

The golf course, which is entirely made of creeping bent grass, counts between 6066 and 6326 yards depending on which course is played. The three nines offer golfers a design of greenside and fairway bunkers, and multitudes of trees and mounds that surround each reconstructed hole. The fairways, which seem pretty wide, cannot be taken at ease.
