The Blue Monster Course

the longest standing tournament
venue on TOUR, since 1962.

The Blue Monster, home of the World Golf Championships-CA Championship, has hosted prestigious PGA TOUR events for the past 45 years. Event every March that starts their Florida swing. In fact, virtually every great name in golf has had a moment of glorious personal triumph on this world-class track. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, golfers won't find a more challenging or spectacular golf course. At 7,125 yards from the tournament tees, and with a series of strategically placed bunkers, both length and finesse are needed to score well on this historic course. The Blue Monster features long fairways, undulating green, a deep Bermuda rough and a unique assortment of water hazards. The famous 18th hole, with its signature fountain, was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World.

Originally designed by noted architect Dick Wilson, the Blue Monster Course has been modified and updated over the past 20 years to meet the demands of the PGA TOUR by three-time Doral champion and Hall-of-Famer Raymond Floyd and world-renowned golf instructor Jim McLean. Most recently the greens and bunkers were modernized under the watchful eye of the PGA Tour for the WGC-CA Championship, first played at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in 2007.

The moral: you want a monster one week a year, you get it every week year-round. You want a pussycat year-round, it'll be a pussycat the week of the tournament, too. The Blue Monster is no longer one of America's great championship courses, but it's still a pretty entertaining example of Dick Wilson's flatland work.
